Easter Celebrations
Last year Easter was not a very happy time for us. This year I wanted to make it extra special for the Dayngrous Duo. We had three whole days of celebrating planned too. On Friday we made all the last minute preparations for the big weekend (aka run out and get Easter baskets because mommy forgot). Once the Dayngrous Duo was asleep I assembled their Easter baskets. I love doing things like this for them. It's one of my favorite parts about being their mom. I especially love the look on their faces when they are completely surprised. I don't think I did too bad. What do you think? (click photo for larger view)
We kicked off the Easter celebrations on Saturday and when the Dayngrous Duo woke up, their Easter baskets were waiting for them along with Easter cards - you know how they love getting cards! Charlie and Lola each received the same card this holiday (since they were fighting over the St. Patrick's Day cards last week!) and Lola got an extra special Hello Kitty card since she adores Hello Kitty. It was a really adorable card too.
We had breakfast, got ready and headed to Parrot Jungle for the Eggstravaganza. The Dayngrous Duo had a blast. This was their very 1st Easter Egg hunt. They had the opportunity to go through twice and gather Easter eggs. The plastic Easter Eggs had goodies hidden inside like candy, toys and coupons for Peeps that they could redeem at the entry way. You won't believe how many packages of Peeps we took home or how many colors they come in!
Charlie and Lola thoroughly enjoyed finding the eggs and putting them in their baskets. It was such a thrill for them and their faces were precious. I was so disheartened to see how greedy some parents were and to hear the things they were telling their kids. It really defeated the spirit of Easter. (More on that later) It was also really nice to see the employees on hand to add some eggs to the baskets of the little ones who didn't gather as many as as the bigger kids. It made it fun and fair for everyone that was participating. The Duo had a blast playing, dancing and bouncing in the bounce house. They had one just for kids their size which was perfect. They had a separate one for the bigger kids and that was such a great idea. There were plenty of fun things for the kids to do like arts and crafts and even cookie decorating. The kids even had an opportunity to see some monkeys and an orangutan up close when the keepers brought them out to play.
Later in the day they got their faces painted for the very first time. I wasn't sure how they would react or if they'd even sit still for the artist but they did great and they loved it. Lola got a pretty pink flamigo though I think she actually asked for a butterfly. She was so proud to look at her design in the mirror and she immediately wanted to get right back in the chair after her turn was over. She still hasn't fully grasped the idea of taking turns but she was very happy to skip over and see Daddy to show off her pink flamingo. Charlie asked for a tiger and I think he was pretty surprised to see how he was transformed. He spent the rest of the day roaring and pretending to swipe with his tiger paws. It was really cute to watch.
Even though it ended up raining and the rest of the events were cancelled the kids didn't mind at all. They had done so much by that time they didn't complain bit when we headed for the car. I suspect it had something to do with getting completely soaked and playing in the rain.We had a nice dinner and when we got home the kids played with their Easter baskets, put on their funny bunny glasses and just spent the rest of the day being silly, suggling with us on the couch and watching the videos they received as part of their holiday goodies.

Oh my goodness what an awesome Easter! I kind of want to go and get my face painted now :)
And parents who are so competitive and selfish that they turn such a fun experience for their kids into a stressful competition makes me so very angry.
